Resolution
To fix the issue, you need to use Outlook inbuilt utility ‘Inbox Repair Tool’; carry out the below given procedure:
Step1: Close Outlook.
Step 2: Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14.
Step 3: Double-click Scanpst.exe.
Step 4: A dialog box ‘Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool’ will appear, click ‘Browse’.
Step 5: Find the .ost file and click ‘Open’.
On Windows XP, the location of the file is as follows:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
To go to the path, make sure to make the hidden files and folders visible. For this, do the following:
- Click ‘Start’.
- Click ‘Computer’.
- In the menu, click ‘Tools’, and then click ‘Folder Options’.
- Switch to the ‘View’ tab and select the ‘Show hidden files, folders, and drives’ option.
- Click ‘OK’.
On Windows 7 or Vista, you can find the file in Outlook 2010 at the following location:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
To go to the path, make sure to make the hidden files and folders visible. For this, do the following:
- Click ‘Start’ and click on ‘Computer’.
- Click ‘Organize’.
- Click ‘Folder and search options’.
- Click ‘View’ tab and click to select the ‘Show hidden files, folders, and drives’ option.
- Click ‘OK’.
Step 6: In ‘Microsoft Outlook Inbox Repair Tool’ dialog, click ‘Start’.
Step 7: Click ‘Repair’.
Step 8: On completion of the process, click ‘OK’.
So, you are done with the procedure, what do you find? The file is repaired or not? Yes, it is also possible that Exchange OST recovery is not successful and your Outlook is still facing the old problem. If so, you need to convert OST file to PST so that all contents of OST file are transferred to a new PST, which can be imported into a new Outlook profile.
